National Disaster Alert portal

Background

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has envisioned a Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) based Integrated Alert System on Pan India basis. The project involves near real-time dissemination of early warning through multiple means of technology using geo-intelligence.

National Disaster Alert Portal has been designed for the use of common public which will facilitate them to view PAN India alerts and warnings generated by various government agencies at a single common hub.

About the portal

The SACHET National Disaster Alert Portal works by publishing various warnings & alerts issued by various Government Alert Generating & Disseminating agencies in a geo-targeted manner so that the right information reaches the right people at right time. The information related to Dos and Donts when disaster occurs is also provided.dis

Each and every warning published on the portal is from recognized Government agencies , like the India Meteorological Department ( IMD ) , Central Water Commission ( CWC ), Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services ( INCOIS ), Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment ( DGRE ), Forest Survey of India ( FSI ) & various State Disaster Management Authorities ( SDMAs’ ) which are apex bodies responsible in case of any disaster. 

Through the portal citizens can receive alerts 

• Related to all natural & man-made disasters,
• In geo-targeted manner
• In multiple languages - 12 languages currently - English, Hindi, Assamese,Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu.
• Across all media at the same time
  • SMS - Disaster alerts are received via SMS from the header XX-NDMAEW.
  • Mobile Application - This app individually can be used for weather forecast information as well as reception of disaster alerts with multiple locations subscription facility.
  • Browser Notification - Browser Notification would be provided on desktop/laptop browsers, through which user can get the notification of disaster related information. Supported Browser : Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge.
  • India CAP RSS Feed - The alert will be published on the RSS feed as well, and agencies (News agencies etc.) subscribed for the RSS feed will get alerts and they can further disseminate/broadcast the warning to the public.
