NABHMITRA is designed with the safety and convenience of Indian fishermen in mind, providing a robust and reliable tool for navigation, communication, and emergency response. It has been developed by the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO. The app has been developed as part of the Vessel Communication and Support System initiative of the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Government of India, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. This initiative focuses on establishing a dedicated Mobile-Satellite Services (MSS) network for Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) of nearly 1 Lakh fishing vessels across 9 coastal states and 4 Union Territories of India. MSS technology has been developed indigenously by Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO. The MSS terminals are equipped with built-in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth transceivers, enabling communication withmobile phones through the Nabhmitra app. The user network management system provides centralized monitoring capabilities, including boat tracking, messaging, report generation, trip declaration, and boat survey and license management. This initiative aims to enhance the safety and security of fishermen, particularly along maritime borders, while also addressing national security concerns related to threats at sea. Features of the Nabhmitra mobile app The app is designed to seamlessly connect with the ‘Xponder’ via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. The Xponder is an S-band MSS transceiver Terminal that supports two-way data exchange via ISRO satellite communication network. It enables critical communication features to enhance the safety, efficiency and navigation of Indian fishermen while at sea. Two-Way Communication: Effortlessly communicate with control centre and other fishermen. The app supports sending and receiving messages via the MSS Xponder through satellite link, ensuring you are always connected. SOS Signaling: In emergencies, send predefined messages such as "Fire on Boat," "Boat Sinking," and "Medical Help Needed", etc to officials for timely assistance. Weather Information: Access real-time weather & cyclone updates, including sea and coastal weather conditions, to make informed decisions and stay safe on the water. Navigation Assistance: Nabhmitra App includes offline maps. It displays the current location of your boat on map. You can utilize the app's navigation features to find your way safely and efficiently. Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) information: For aiding fishing activities by indicating the potential fishing zones and displaying them on map Text Messaging: Send short text messages in any language to control center enhancing communication and coordination. Multi-Language Support: The app supports multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali, ensuring accessibility for a diverse user base. Boundary alerts: Users receive boundary and geofencing alert information General Information: It provides configuration, monitoring and controlling parameter configuration of the Xponder equipment on the boat.
