<h3>Excavations at Pilak, Tirupura</h3>
The ancient mound locally known as Thakurani Tila is located in Paschim Pilak in South Tripura district. Excavations conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1998-2001 at this site have brought to light the brick-built basement of nine shrines, of which two are rectangular in plan and the remaining seven are square.

The presence of a quartz shivalinga fixed in a stone yonipitha within one of the shrines indicates that the shrine was dedicated to Shiva. The site has also yielded an image of Mahisasurmardini Durga and a colossal standing image of Surya holding lotuses. The excavated remains from the mound can be assigned to circa 10th-13th century CE.&nbsp;
