Ph.D. Programmes at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, invites applications from candidates who are Indian citizens to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. Degree to be awarded by the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). The projects offered for Ph.D. would be in the broad areas of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Developmental Biology, Plant Molecular Biology, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Evolution, Protein Structure and Function, Biology of Macromolecules, Biology of Infection, Immunology, Epigenetics, Chromatin Biology, and Bioinformatics. Qualifying Degree A 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree in science after a 3-year/6-semester Bachelor’s degree in Science, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point-scale. OR A 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree in Science with a minimum 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point-scale. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Eligibility Criteria National-level fellowship: Applicant should have a valid National-level Fellowship (JRF/ SRF of any funding agency, e.g., CSIR, ICMR, UGC, DBT, DST, etc.) or any other equivalent fellowship like DBT-BET, INSPIRE, RGNF, etc. (Tenable at all AcSIR-associated Research Institutes except ICMR Institutes). For candidates who want to be considered for LaCONES ONLY: The applicant should have qualified either GATE Ecology and Evolution or have a valid National-level Fellowship JRF of any funding agency, e.g., CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST, etc., or any other equivalent fellowship like DBTBET, INSPIRE, RGNF, etc. (Tenable at all AcSIR Academic Centres). Selection Process Online applications will be screened, and eligible candidates will be called for a computerbased written test (a remote proctored online test) tentatively on 19th or 26th April 2026. Candidates should indicate their preference on the application portal for pursuing a PhD at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), the Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES), or exclusively at “LaCONES only”. Those opting for “LaCONES only” will be screened through an interview and a statement of purpose. Please upload the statement of purpose when applying online. LaCONES only candidates are exempted from computer-based written test. Candidates qualifying in the test/screening and having a valid FELLOWSHIP for pursuing Ph.D. will be shortlisted to appear for in-person interview at CCMB in the first or second week of June 2026. This interview would be conducted in two rounds across two separate days. Fellowship A valid fellowship is an ABSOLUTE requirement for pursuing a Ph.D. at CCMB, and the eligible fellowships are: Any National level fellowship (JRF/SRF of CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICMR, etc.), DSTINSPIRE, or any other equivalent fellowship for pursuing Ph.D. Note The applicant must first register with AcSIR at the following link (https://acsir.emli.in/ACSIRAdmissionPortal/online-admission/portal/acsir-online-admportal/index.php#/) and choose the CSIR-CCMB Ph.D. Program as one of the options before applying to CSIR-CCMB (https://apply.registernow.in/CCMB/Phd25/. The fellowship MUST be valid by the time of joining (August 2026). Candidates with lecturer-ship only in the CSIR-UGC (NET) examination will not be shortlisted for the interview. Candidates must make their OWN travel arrangements, stay, etc. at the examination centre and/or in Hyderabad for interviews (2-3 days). Travelling allowance is not payable by CCMB. Candidates qualifying for both the preliminary and the final interview will be selected to pursue a Ph.D. at CCMB. Mere fulfillment of the minimum requirements stipulated in the notification would not automatically entitle a person for selection. The decision of CCMB in this regard shall be final.
