National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) The National Centre for Biological Sciences (a constituent centre of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy) is devoted to excellent research in biology across scales, from molecules to ecosystems. CALIBRE AI in Biology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in collaboration with ICTS, Bangalore is pleased to invite applications for the AI in Biology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. This is a 2-year fellowship designed to train and support early-career researchers pursuing innovative projects integrating AI approaches with biological research. Candidates are expected to develop a research proposal that fits the mandate and scope of CALIBRE, working closely with their proposed mentors at NCBS and/or ICTS. It is desirable if such fellows will have a main advisor and a co-advisor drawn from NCBS and ICTS. Fellows are expected to participate in the broader activities of CALIBRE such as teaching, workshops, conferences and outreach. What’s Included Fellows will be provided a Monthly fellowship of ₹1,25,000 per month (consolidated). Additional funding support of ₹3,00,000 per year will be provided towards researchrelated expenses and travel to conferences and international scientific events. Eligibility The essential requirements for this post are as follows: PhD in any of the natural sciences or computer sciences An outstanding research record and demonstrated excellence in their chosen field Pre-application Process The application package should consist of the following: Latest CV PDF versions of 1-3 first-author publications. At least 2 letters of references (e-mailed directly to acadoffice@ncbs.res.in) Research Proposal Lay Summary: a 1 page or less, summary of the proposed research. Particular attention will be paid to this summary. It should answer the question of why/how this application of AI will be transformative for the target area of science. Details of Fellowship Supervisor: The proposal should mention the applicant’s proposed fellowship supervisor at NCBS and or ICTS. Mentors must be contacted in advance of the application. Research Proposal: A 3 pages proposal that explains why and how the proposed research could be transformative for a particular area of science. It can be structured around background, hypotheses/aims, work approach, and plans for future work and relevance to the area of research. Letters of Support A letter of support from your proposed host (emailed directly to acadoffice@ncbs.res.in) At least 2 letters of references (emailed directly by the referees to acadoffice@ncbs.res.in) Evaluation Criteria A committee comprising faculty from NCBS and ICTS will review applications and shortlist candidates. The committee will assess the candidate’s scientific background and qualifications, as well as the scientific and technological merit and originality of the proposed project.
