About IISERs The Government of India, through the Ministry of Education, has established seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs). These institutes are located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati. The IISERs represent a unique initiative in India where teaching and education are integrated with state-of-the-art research, nurturing both curiosity and creativity in an intellectually vibrant atmosphere of research. Each IISER is an autonomous institution awarding its own Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees. About IISER Tirupati IISER Tirupati is the sixth Institute in the chain of IISERs established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Education for imparting quality education in basic sciences and for setting up state-of-the-art research facilities for frontline and cutting-edge research in science. Academic activity at IISER Tirupati commenced in August 2015 in the spacious transit campus located at Sree Rama Engineering College, Rami Reddy Nagar, Karakambadi Road, Tirupati. The permanent campus of IISER Tirupati is at Srinivasapuram and Panguru village of Yerpedu Mandal, on the Yerupedu - Venkatagiri Road. IIT Tirupati is also located 3 Kms apart on this road. The establishment of IISER and IIT in Tirupati paves the way for a unique synergy of two premier educational institutes in the country. Professional Master’s Programs In today’s data-driven world, considering the contemporary need for training business-ready professionals, IISER Tirupati launched the following Professional Master’s Programs in 2024: Biological Data Science (BioDS) Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DS-AI) Since the program’s recent inception, it has attracted several early and mid-career professionals from various industries alongside fresh graduates too! The Professional Master’s Program at IISER Tirupati is aimed at highly motivated professionals and students who wish to pursue/progress their career in Data Science and allied fields. Candidates can apply for the Professional Master’s Program upon completion of a four-year Bachelor‘s degree in science or technology or computer applications or architecture or a Master’s degree in science or technology or computer applications. The programs combine curricula for theoretical and applied topics, blending together course work and hands-on learning. This enables the participants to be business-ready and industry-ready immediately upon successful completion of the program. The program will be offered in online mode (both BioDS and DS-AI) to enable seamless participation of working professionals. IISER Tirupati offers modern research laboratories and computational facilities. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of seminars, meetings and workshops, thereby giving them a chance to interact with people from other research organizations within the country and abroad. Interaction wth industry shall also be facilitated to aid with possible employment opportunities. Potential Opportunities (Master’s in BioDS) Employment as Scientist / researcher in public and private enterprises including Pharma & Biotech industry, Sequencing companies, AI in Lifesciences etc. Potential Opportunities (Master’s in DS-AI) Potential employment in public and private enterprises as Data Analyst / Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Machine Learning Scientist, Technology specialized roles like NLP Specialist, etc. Eligibility Criteria Common Eligibility Criteria:Four-Year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline of Science(BS) or Technology (B.E./B.Tech.) or Computer Applications (4 Year BCA) or Architecture (B. Arch) with at least 60% aggregate marks or a minimum CGPA of 6.0/10.0 (OR) Master’s degree in Science(MS / M.Sc.) or Technology (M.E./ M.Tech.) or Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% aggregate marks or a minimum CGPA of 5.5/10.0 Applicants from industry or other organizations, freshers as well as mid-career professionals, are encouraged to apply. For Biological Data Science (BioDS): Applicants with a B.Tech. in Biotechnology, BS/M.Sc. Bioinformatics or M.Sc. from any Biology discipline (with exposure to Bioinformatics) are encouraged to apply. For Data Science & Artificial Inteligence (DS-AI): On top of the common eligibility, students must have taken Mathematics as a subject at the Class XII level. Curriculum and Courses The program combines curricula for theoretical and applied topics, blending together course work and hands-on learning. This enables the participants to be business-ready and industry-ready immediately upon successful completion of the program. The programs (both BioDS and DS-AI) will be offered in online mode to enable seamless participation of working professionals. IISER Tirupati offers Professional Master’s program as a business-driven program with a blend of course work and hands-on experience. The program spans over a period of 2 semesters. The first semester of the program consists of 5 core courses, preparing the student with the topics in Mathematics and Programming required for learning Data Science, and an introductory course on Machine Learning. The second semester consists of specialized courses involving hands-on experience including Deep Learning and specialised areas of Artificial Intelligence, along with projects to be executed. On successful completion of the program, the graduate will be ready to solve real-world problems in academia / industry.
