Public Health System The public health system in India can be strengthened through the presence of well-trained and competent public health professionals. Qualified public health professionals are a necessity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Such an inter-disciplinary public health workforce shall advance the vision of Universal Health Care. The aim of this program is to make public health education and research activities relevant to India in content and context, while attaining standards, which are qualitatively comparable with the best in the world. The Indian Institute of Public Health-Delhi is pleased to announce its call for applications for MPH-HST for the academic year 2026-2028, in collaboration with Dr. B. C. Roy Multi-Specialty Medical Research Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Program Contents The multi-disciplinary curriculum will include core theory, core lab, seminar, summer program and elective courses. The core courses will be: Basics in Epidemiology; Biostatistics for Public Health; Methods in Public Health Research; Introduction to Programming; Introduction to Public Health Nutrition; Social Determinants of Health; Health Systems, Policy and National Programmes; Health Economics, Financing and Policy; Introduction to Environment and Occupational Health; Reproductive, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health. Core lab courses will include Public Health and AI/ML for Systems Thinking in Public Health. The elective theory courses will include: Programme Management for Health; Public Health Emergency & Disaster Management; Health Technology Assessment; Qualitative and Participatory Research Methods; Health Behaviour & Promotion; Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy; Advances in Population-based Health Research; Infectious Disease Epidemiology; Non-Communicable Disease Epidemiology; Digital Techniques for Public Health Research; Emerging Trends in Public Health Nutrition; Ethics in Biomedical Research. Program Objective To develop interdisciplinary public health professionals who can address complex population health challenges using systems thinking, technological innovation, and evidence-based decision making, in alignment with National Education Policy 2020, Digital India, and Viksit Bharat. To provide rigorous training in core public health sciences alongside advanced analytical and technological skills, including epidemiology, biostatistics, research methodology, programming, predictive modelling, AI/ML, and digital health applications. To prepare ethically grounded and translationally oriented public health leaders capable of designing scalable interventions, translating research into policy and practice, and contributing across research, industry, governance, and development sectors. To prepare students to work in socially, culturally, and economically diverse populations by being attentive to needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups and well versed with the existing health system. Program Administration and Language The program will utilize a variety of teaching/learning techniques including lectures using audio-visual aids, demonstrations, group discussions, and presentation by students. Hands-on practice in computer-based applications and relevant software will be imparted in several courses. The medium of instruction would be English. During mandatory internship, the students will get an opportunity to engage in research related activities while working in community set up, public health research organization, NGO, hospital or laboratory settings. Eligibility Criteria Minimum Academic Qualifications 1. Mathematics at 10+2 level (even as additional subject) or equivalent from any recognized Open University/open school (AND) 2a. Graduation in MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BNYS, BUMS, BSMS, B Tech/ BE (any branch), B.V. Sc., Nursing Sciences, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy (OR) 2b. 4-years graduation in Statistics/ Biostatistics, Demography, Population Studies, Nutrition, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, Anthropology, Social Work, Management, Law (OR) 2c. Graduation in any other discipline along with a post-graduate degree in Statistics/ Biostatistics, Demography, Population Studies, Nutrition, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, Anthropology, Social Work, Management, Law Application Last Date 21 June 2026 Selection Process All candidates should submit the application form online for the MPH-HST program available here. The application consists of a registration form, proof of academic credentials and work experience, as well as Statement of Purpose (SOP). The applications will be screened and short-listed based on the eligibility criteria. Shortlisted applicants will need to appear for an objective type entrance test in Delhi or Kolkata. Candidates who qualify the test will be invited to attend the interview. The selection of candidates will be conducted by a specially constituted selection committee comprising of members from both the institutions. The final selection of the candidate for the MPH-HST program is based on the combined scores of entrance test and interview with equal weightage. Program Structure The MPH-HST program is an intensive full-time program spread across two years, focusing on enhancing skills and abilities of students in research, management, problem solving, and critical thinking in the area of public health. The first three semesters include classroom-based, face-to-face teaching, tutorials and practicals (computer lab and public health activities in community). Students will spend their first two semesters at IIPH-Delhi, followed by the third semester at IIT Kharagpur. The final semester will include 6 months of project work (with dissertation). Students will have flexibility to choose their dissertation topic and accordingly they will spend their final semester at either IIPH-Delhi or IIT Kharagpur. The students who successfully complete the coursework and the project work will be awarded the MPH-HST degree. Degree Awarding and Registering Body Dr. B. C. Please note that the fee does not cover accommodation or meals. IIPH-Delhi does not provide hostel facilities, so students will need to arrange their own stay while in Delhi. While, IIT Kharagpur offers hostel accommodation; students are required to stay on campus and will need to pay additional charges for hostel and meals, over and above the fees mentioned above. Scholarship Limited number of scholarships for MPH-HST may be awarded for deserving and meritorious candidates, subject to availability of funds.
