It was established in 1969 by an act of Parliament and named after Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. The University is known for its leading faculties and research emphasis. JNU has bagged the 2nd rank in the university category and 10th in the overall category in India. A university stands for transformation. JNU exemplifies the positive aspects of human habitation and intervention. Built on the rugged barren terrain of the Aravalli hill range, where the 1000-acre campus is housed, the University has turned into a lush green estate of envy, a landscape bursting into the colours of bougainvillea and amaltas, mangoes and jamun (Indian blackberry), and is the home of peacocks and nilgais. JNU is a birdwatcher's paradise, with parts of it now hosting almost dense forests. BBA Tourism & Travel Program From 2016 onwards, IITTM is offering BBA Tourism & Travel program from its centers viz. Gwalior, Noida, Bhubaneswar, Nellore & Goa (as per the MoU signed under the collaborative scheme of JNU– Ministry of Education, Govt. Of India).
