About ICMR-SHINE S.H.I.N.E. is Science, Health and Innovation for NextGen Explorers - a nationwide student outreach programme launched on 8th August 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of Prof. V. Ramalingaswami. It is an annual, ongoing initiative. It provides an opportunity for students to spend a day as scientists, in line with our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call “One Day as a Scientist” for inspiring the next generation and shaping our journey towards a Viksit Bharat. This also reflects the Secretary DHR and DG ICMR’s vision and strong desire to ignite scientific curiosity and foster innovation among students. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) S.H.I.N.E. National-Level Competition invites students of Grades 9 to 12, studying in government, government-aided and private schools across India, to apply scientific thinking to real-world public health challenges. Aligned with India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, the competition encourages scientific curiosity for public health solutions through the use of scientific literature, peer discussion, and observation. Objective To inspire school students to pursue biomedical research careers by showcasing impactful ICMR research, providing hands-on experiences, and enabling expert interactions across all institutes.
