India’s linguistic diversity is one of its greatest cultural strengths and our nation speaks 1,369 languages and dialects. The Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp helps students explore different Indian languages through fun activities, conversations, and cultural experiences. Inspired by National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this initiative promotes multilingual learning and unity in diversity. Background The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises on multilingualism to strengthen national integration, cultural understanding and communication skills. In alignment with these objectives and to provide students with joyful and experiential opportunities to learn one more Indian language. Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp seeks to benefit students, teachers and schools across the country while strengthening national integration through the learning of multiple Indian languages and the exchange of culture. This nationwide initiative aims to celebrate the linguistic diversity of India and promote multilingualism among school students, in line with the vision of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Viksit Bharat 2047. Implementation Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp (BBSC) shall be organised across schools during the summer vacation. The initiative aims to promote the spirit of "Learn One More Bharatiya Bhasha" through joyful language-learning experiences for students. The camps are designed to expose learners to different Indian languages and cultures and to develop basic conversational skills in any Indian language other than their mother tongue. The school students from classes 1 to 12 are engaged through storytelling, songs, games, theatre, conversations, folk traditions, art and cultural exchange activities. School-Level Action Points - The camp may be conducted in physical mode, as per feasibility, for approximately 28 hours (2 hours per day for 7 days) and the schools may- Organise the camp during summer vacation or, where vacations are over, through weekend sessions/after-school hours. Appoint one nodal teacher with the support of other teachers may plan and organise programme at school level for each day of the summer camp. Choose any Indian language based on student interest, local context, or availability of resource persons. Encourage language teachers, art/music teachers, parents, volunteers, alumni, local experts, NGOs, and special educators to participate as resource persons. Utilise PM e-Vidya resources and materials developed by NCERT and other institutions. Maintain participation records and photographs/videos of activities. Encourage formation of Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad/Language Clubs for continued language learning. Award participation certificates to students and teachers/resource persons.
