About Centre for Networked Intelligence We are racing towards a connected world where every individual and device contribute to and benefit from the network. However, our data collection surpasses our ability to extract valuable knowledge. To achieve networked intelligence, we need a holistic approach involving real-time sensing, communication, analytics, and more. The centre aims to develop next-gen networking solutions for smart cities, IoT, data exchanges, and society's benefit. The Centre for Networked Intelligence is an industry-sponsored research centre focused on developing next generation networking methodologies and concept solutions that can derive knowledge from evolved networks of the future. Research Intern Opportunity The Centre for Networked Intelligence, IISc is accepting applications for Spring (Jan-May) 2026 semester and Summer (May-Aug) 2026 at the Distributed Systems Research group. Students with excellent academic record who can spend a minimum of 16 weeks in-person at CNI during Spring'26 or a minimum of 12 weeks in Summer'26 are encouraged to apply. The selected interns will work on one of the following: Sustainable computing for model-training and inference in machine learning (ML) Distributed ML over heterogeneous compute environments Network transport protocols optimized for Data Center workloads Applicants must possess solid quantitative skills and must be well-acquainted with programming, systems architecture (Linux operating system, shell commands and scripting, networks, and computer architecture). Above all, they must have a flair for self-learning new techniques during the course of the internship. The research internship at CNI follows a goal-driven intensive schedule, with an aim of achieving research publications and working prototypes. Please apply only if you are willing to put in additional efforts in learning required skills and delivering on the planned experiments. The reward is the authorship on the publication(s) and software you contributed, which is a valuable endorsement to your CV for higher studies or industry job. Past CNI interns have managed to get admissions to high-ranked universities abroad or get jobs in reputed companies. The interns will be working within a team with senior research staff, PhD scholars, and IISc faculty.
