Bose Institute Bose Institute, founded in 1917 by the eminent scientist Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, is one of India’s oldest and premier research institutes, which currently runs as an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It started its journey in its ‘Main Campus’ located at Rajabazar in central Kolkata, whereas currently its primary functional campus is its Unified Academic Campus, located at Sector V, Bidhannagar, in East Kolkata. Currently, there are seven campuses of the Bose Institute across West Bengal. It was established with the vision of promoting interdisciplinary research in science, and since its inception, over the years, the institute has delivered pioneering work in Plant Physiology, Physics, Chemistry, and Biophysics. Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose himself made ground-breaking contributions in these fields. Over the last few decades, Bose Institute has expanded its research scope to include Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Plant Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, and maintains a strong emphasis on both basic and applied research. The institute plays a significant role in nurturing young scientists through its academic programs, contributing meaningfully to India's scientific and technological progress. Summer Internship (2026) at Bose Institute Bose Institute invites applications from outstanding students in Physical, Chemical, and Biological Sciences for its short-term training programme. The programme will be conducted from April to August 2026, with a duration of 6-12 weeks. Selected interns will work under the mentorship of distinguished faculty members of the Institute. Selection will be based on academic excellence, research interests, and overall merit ensuring alignment with the Institute’s current research activities. Approximately 50 students will be chosen to participate in this prestigious internship opportunity. Eligibility Criteria Students who are pursuing Master’s degrees (e.g. M.Sc., M.Tech., etc.) and the 4th year onwards students of Integrated Masters course etc. may apply. Students pursuing Bachelor’s degree level course may apply only if they are in their final year of their course and also have INSPIRE, JBNSTS, KVPY, NTSE, etc. awards of national or state level. Minimum eligibility criteria for consideration of the requests are at least 75% scores (or an equivalent grade) in all major school level examinations [Secondary school examination (10+) and higher secondary examination (10 +2)] and first division marks (60% in aggregate or equivalent grade) in Bachelors programme. Students who have completed their Master’s degree or not enrolled to any such degree programme are not eligible for this training. Applications must attach a recommendation/forwarding letter from the Head of the Department/Institution or Registrar/Dean of the University/Institute/College of the candidate in the attached prescribed format. Original certificates, mark sheets, recommendation letter and identity proof should be presented at the time of joining the training programme.
