Hyundai Hope For Cancer Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), drawing inspiration from Hyundai Hope on Wheels and its global fight against cancer, is dedicated to transforming the lives of children across India. Through its focused CSR initiatives, HMIF drives breakthrough cancer research and promotes community awareness to build a future free from cancer. In collaboration with IIT Madras, one of India’s leading research institutions, HMIF is advancing cutting-edge cancer genomics research. Together, the goal is not just to pursue scientific innovation, but to create a future where every child can live with hope, health, and happiness. IIT Madras With over six decades of excellence since its establishment in 1959, IIT Madras stands as a beacon of scientific innovation and technological leadership. Recognized globally as one of India’s leading institutions, it has made groundbreaking contributions to healthcare and cancer genomics research. Through initiatives like the Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA), IIT Madras addresses the need for genomic data tailored to the Indian population. This critical effort enables early detection, personalized treatments, and improved health outcomes. By combining advanced research infrastructure with strong collaborative partnerships, IIT Madras continues to transform cancer care and drive the future of precision medicine. A Holistic Approach To Cancer Care Awareness and Screening In India, cancer affects millions of lives each year, with approximately one in nine individuals diagnosed during their lifetime. In 2022, over 1.46 million new cancer cases were reported, while many more went undetected due to a lack of awareness and missed early signs. By 2025, the number of new cases is projected to rise by 12.8%, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and regular screenings. The program aims to break the stigma surrounding cancer, educate communities on prevention and early signs, and promote proactive healthcare practices. Early detection, especially in children, significantly improves survival rates, reduces the need for intensive treatments, and ensures a better quality of life. Vaccination The HPV vaccination program safeguards adolescent girls aged 9-26 with access to life-saving vaccines. By promoting early protection and raising awareness, the aim is to reduce the risk of HPV-related cancers and empower communities to lead healthier lives. Research As part of the Hyundai Hope of Care program, the Hyundai Centre for Cancer Genomics has been established to advance cancer care through pioneering genomic research, with a special emphasis on paediatric cancers. This initiative aims to address the unique challenges of the Indian population. Using state-of-the-art genomic technologies, the Centre is focused on: Building a comprehensive genomic database specific to India Identifying biomarkers for early detection, disease progression, and treatment response Discovering novel drug targets to enable innovative, targeted anti-cancer therapies By combining scientific expertise with a vision for a healthier future, the Hyundai Centre for Cancer Genomics at IIT Madras is driving transformative breakthroughs in cancer research and care for generations to come. Free Treatment The Free Cancer Treatment Approval Committee (FCTAC) plays a central role in ensuring that the Hyundai Hope for Cancer initiative upholds its mission of delivering equitable and need-based cancer care. The Committee is established to maintain transparency, accountability, and fairness in the selection and approval process for patients seeking financial support for cancer treatment, particularly individuals from families who cannot afford the treatment. The Technical Committee is responsible for overseeing and reviewing the technical performance of the Hyundai Hope for Cancer initiative to ensure that the program meets its objectives with the highest standards of quality and effectiveness. It is chaired by the Head of the Centre. The landmark initiative of Hyundai Hope for Cancer aims to drive the development of a comprehensive Indian cancer-specific genomic database, and catalyze early diagnosis, precision medicine, and equitable access to care for affected cancer patients, particularly those from underserved populations. In alignment with this vision, and to ensure effective governance and strategic oversight, a Governing Council has been established for the Centre. The purpose of the Council is to provide guidance on operational matters, oversee the administration of funds, and steer the long-term technical direction of the Centre. Free Cancer Treatment Support Eligible patients can be nominated by their treating physicians through the online portal. The completed Patient Nomination Form, along with all supporting medical documents, can be uploaded when a notification for free treatment is issued. Eligible paediatric cancer patients may receive support subject to the programme’s eligibility criteria, documentation and review process. Source: Hyundai Hope For Cancer
