With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government. The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) is the implementing agency of PMBJP. Under this scheme, there are already more than 10,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are functional across the country. The product basket of PMBJP comprises 1759 medicines and 280 surgical devices covering all major therapeutic groups. This scheme provides an excellent opportunity of self-employment with sustainable and regular earnings. Who can open a Pradhan Mantri Janaushadhi Kendras? Individual entrepreneur / Proprietor Partnership Charitable Institute/Hospital NGO/ Trust/ Society Government/ Government Nominated Agency Any Other Margins and incentives A normal incentive will be given @ 20% of monthly purchase made from PMBI, by the PMBJKs subject to ceiling of Rs. 20,000/- permonth, subject to conditions of stock mandate. Operating Margin: The operating agency will be provided with a 20% margin on the M.R.P. (excluding taxes) of each drug. Under PMBJP, an incentive of Rs. 5.00 lakh is provided to the Jan Aushadhi Kendras as financial assistance and one-time additional incentive of Rs. 2.00 lakh (as reimbursement for IT and Infra expenditure) is provided to Jan Aushadhi Kendras opened in North-Eastern States, Himalayan areas, island territories and backward areas identified as aspirational districts by NITI Ayog or if opened by Women Entrepreneur, Ex-serviceman, Divyang, SCs & STs.). A pharmacist Distance policy to open new kendra Distance of minimum 01.00 KM to be maintained between two Kendras while approving new Kendra in all Districts throughout the country. A non-refundable application fee of Rs. 5,000/- is to be submitted along with the application form except for applicants belonging to the categories of women entrepreneurs, Divyang, SC, ST, ex-servicemen, or any entrepreneurs from aspirational districts (backward districts) as notified by the NITI Aayog, as well as those from Himalayan, island territories, and NorthEastern states, who are exempted from the fee upon submission proof of their category.
