Introduction The Punjab Government introduced the Mukh Mantri Punjab Cancer Raahat Kosh Scheme in 2011 to support cancer patients who cannot afford costly medical treatment. The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on families by ensuring timely monetary help for cancer care. The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, runs this initiative and oversees its implementation across empanelled hospitals. Through this scheme, eligible patients receive direct financial assistance so that treatment does not get delayed due to lack of funds. Under the scheme, the government transfers Rs. 1,50,000 directly into the patient’s bank account for cancer treatment at approved hospitals. Only permanent residents of Punjab diagnosed with cancer can apply. Government employees, ESI beneficiaries, their dependents, and individuals already covered under medical reimbursement or private health insurance cannot claim benefits. The Punjab Government has also launched an official online portal to provide complete scheme-related information and application tracking.
