<h3>Introduction</h3> <ul> <li><img style="max-width: 100%; height: 193px; float: right;" src="https://static.vikaspedia.in/mediastorage/filestorage/20260102152727_InformationofBabuSchemeAssam.webp" alt="Uploaded Image" width="154">The Assam Government started the year 2026 with encouraging news for male students across the state.</li> <li>On 01 January 2026, the state government announced a new scholarship-based financial assistance scheme named Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni, commonly referred to as the Babu Scheme.</li> <li>Through this initiative, the state government aims to support boys who want to continue their higher education but face financial constraints.</li> <li>The government already runs the <a href="viewcontent/schemesall/state-specific-schemes/welfare-schemes-of-assam/mukhyamantri-nijut-moina-scheme" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mukhyamantri Nijut Moina Scheme</a> to provide monthly assistance to girl students in Assam.</li> <li>After observing its positive impact, the state felt the need to introduce a similar support system for boys as well.</li> <li>With Mukhyamantri Nijut Babu Asoni, the government wants to ensure that financial limitations do not interrupt the academic journey of male students pursuing graduation or post-graduation within Assam.</li> <li>The Assam Government plans to officially launch the Nijut Babu Aasoni Scheme on 01 February 2026.</li> <li>Application Form for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Students is released by the Government which can be collected free of cost from student's respective college.</li> </ul> <h3>Benefits</h3> <ul> <li>Under the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni Scheme, the Assam Government will provide monthly financial assistance in the form of a scholarship to eligible male students.</li> <li>This support will help students manage education-related expenses such as books, stationery, travel, and other academic needs.</li> <li>Students enrolled in 1st year of undergraduate courses will receive Rs. 1,000 per month for 10 months. (Total of Rs. 10,000/- per academic year)</li> <li>Students pursuing postgraduate courses and is in 1st year will get Rs. 2,000 per month for 10 months. (Total of Rs. 20,000/- per academic year)</li> <li>No Financial Assistance for Summer Vacation and break which last more than 1 month.</li> <li>The government will transfer the scholarship amount directly into the beneficiary’s bank account, ensuring transparency and timely payment.</li> <li>This regular monthly assistance will motivate students to focus on their studies and complete their degrees without financial stress.</li> </ul> <h3>Eligibility</h3> <ul> <li>The Assam Government has defined basic eligibility conditions for the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni Scheme to ensure that deserving students receive the benefit :- <ul> <li>Applicants must be permanent residents of Assam.</li> <li>Only male students can apply under this scheme.</li> <li>The student must currently be in 1st year of undergraduate or postgraduate course in an institution located within Assam.</li> <li>The annual family income of the applicant must not exceed Rs. 4 lakh.</li> <li>Beneficiary Student of <a href="viewcontent/schemesall/state-specific-schemes/welfare-schemes-of-assam/chief-ministers-jibon-prerana-scheme?lgn=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"Chief Minister Jibon Prerana Scheme"</a> and "Banikanta Kakati Merit Award Scheme" is not eligible to apply.</li> <li>Male Students who are married is also not eligible to apply under Assam Government's Mukhyamantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni.</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <h3>Documents</h3> <ul> <li>Applicants will need to submit a set of essential documents to verify eligibility and process the scholarship amount.</li> <li>Based on preliminary information, students should keep the following documents ready :- <ul> <li>Proof of permanent residence in Assam.</li> <li>Aadhaar Card.</li> <li>Valid mobile number and email ID.</li> <li>Bank account details for direct benefit transfer.</li> <li>Family income certificate or Ration Card.</li> <li>SAMARTH Enrollment Number.</li> <li>Educational documents related to current course enrollment.</li> </ul> </li> <li>The government may add or modify document requirements once it publishes the official guidelines.</li> </ul> <h3>Process to Apply</h3> <ul> <li>Students pursuing Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses must submit separate application forms under this scheme.</li> <li>Colleges provide the UG and PG application forms free of cost to students under the Assam Government’s Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni.</li> <li>Registrars or Principals will formally announce the scheme in their institutions and distribute application forms to eligible students.</li> <li>The Head of each Educational Institution will appoint one or two Nodal Teachers to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme.</li> <li>Eligible students must collect the Nijut Babu Scheme application form from their college and fill in all details carefully.</li> <li>The application form asks students to provide the following information such as Personal details, Academic details and Bank account details.</li> <li>Students must attach all required documents with the completed form and submit it to the college administration office.</li> <li>Registrars or Principals will review the submitted forms and verify the details provided by the students.</li> <li>After verification, the college will upload the details of eligible students on the SAMARTH Portal for automated verification.</li> <li>Each educational institution will ensure that applicants submit a valid parent income certificate or ration card, which the college will verify and upload on the portal.</li> <li>Officials from the Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam, will cross-check the student data uploaded by the colleges under the scheme.</li> <li>Students who qualify under the eligibility criteria will receive monthly financial assistance for 10 months as a scholarship.</li> <li>For any clarification or assistance related to the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni, students should contact the Nodal Officer appointed by their college.</li> </ul> <h3>Contact</h3> <ul> <li>Students can email the query on "higheredn.assa@assam.gov.in"</li> </ul>
