Introduction Delhi Government is preparing to launch a new maternal welfare scheme named Mukhyamantri Matru Vandana Yojana in the year 2026. The government initially announced it under the name Mukhyamantri Matritva Suraksha Yojana, but later finalized Mukhyamantri Matru Vandana Yojana as the official scheme name. The scheme draws inspiration from the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, which provides limited financial support for pregnancy and childbirth. However, the Delhi Government has expanded the scope and benefits to offer stronger financial and nutritional support to pregnant women and newborn children. The Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Delhi, will implement this scheme across the National Capital Territory. According to government planning, nearly one lakh women beneficiaries may receive benefits under this scheme. To ensure smooth execution, the Delhi Government has already allocated Rs. 210 crore in the 2025-26 budget. The authorities are expected to roll out the scheme shortly after issuing official guidelines. Benefits Mukhyamantri Matru Vandana Yojana focuses on providing both financial assistance and nutritional support to eligible pregnant women in Delhi. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs. 21,000 as financial assistance, which the government will release in multiple installments. This structured payment approach ensures continued support throughout the pregnancy period. In addition to monetary assistance, the Delhi Government will also provide six Poshan Kits to each selected beneficiary. These nutritional kits will support the health and dietary needs of both the mother and the newborn child. The government plans to distribute these kits through local Anganwadi Centres for easy access. Eligibility The Delhi Government has outlined basic eligibility conditions to ensure that the scheme reaches deserving women. Only permanent resident women of Delhi can apply under Mukhyamantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Applicants must be pregnant women or lactating mothers at the time of registration. The scheme primarily targets women from low-income families. Pregnant beneficiaries must be 18 years of age or above. The government will release additional eligibility criteria through official notifications once the scheme formally launches. Documents Applicants should keep the following documents ready to complete the registration process smoothly once applications open :- Proof of Delhi residence. Aadhaar Card of the pregnant woman. Bank account details for direct benefit transfer. Record of first Antenatal Care (ANC) check-up. MAMTA Card, if available. Family income certificate. Valid mobile number. The final document list may include additional requirements as per the official guidelines. Process to Apply The Delhi Government plans to follow an Anganwadi-based application process, similar to existing maternal welfare schemes. After completing the first ANC check-up, pregnant women will need to visit their nearest Anganwadi Centre with all required documents. The assigned Anganwadi Worker will register the applicant under Mukhyamantri Matru Vandana Yojana and enter the details into the official system. After registration, the Department of Women and Child Development will verify applications and prepare the final list of eligible beneficiaries. Applicants must wait for the official launch notification before visiting Anganwadi Centres for registration. The government will announce timelines, procedures, and guidelines after the formal rollout. Important Links Department of Women and Child Development, Delhi.
