Introduction The Government of Jharkhand, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren, has introduced an important welfare initiative named Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana. This scheme aims to provide financial relief to domestic electricity consumers by offering free electricity up to 200 units per month. The main purpose of the scheme is to support economically weaker families and reduce their monthly household expenses. Initially launched in 2022 with a benefit of 100 free units, the scheme was expanded in 2024 to cover 200 units of free electricity. Today, more than 40 lakh households across Jharkhand are receiving its benefits, including 33.5 lakh rural and 6.5 lakh urban consumers. The scheme is implemented by Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL), which issues zero electricity bills to eligible families automatically without any application process. No need to apply separately, the household will automatically receive zero electricity bill if the monthly consumption is less than 200 units. Benefits Under the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana, the state government provides several major benefits to domestic electricity consumers :- Free electricity up to 200 units every month. Complete waiver of energy charges. Exemption from fixed charges. No electricity duty applicable. Waiver of FPPPA charges. Automatic generation of zero bill for eligible consumers. This initiative directly reduces the financial burden on low-income families and ensures affordable access to electricity for better living standards. Eligibility To receive the benefits of Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana, consumers must fulfill the following conditions :- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Jharkhand. Only domestic electricity connection holders are eligible. Monthly electricity consumption should be less than 200 units. Both rural and urban households can avail the benefit. Ineligibility The following consumers will not be covered under the scheme :- Commercial or industrial electricity connection holders. Households consuming more than 200 units per month. Documents Generally, beneficiaries are not required to submit documents. However, if verification is needed, the following may be asked :- Electricity connection details. Latest electricity bill. Identity proof of consumer. Address proof as mentioned in electricity records. Process to Apply There is no separate application process for Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana. The benefits are provided automatically by JBVNL based on monthly electricity consumption. If a household uses less than 200 units, a zero bill is generated.
