Introduction The Madhya Pradesh Government has consistently introduced student-focused welfare schemes to improve academic performance and encourage higher education. Continuing this approach, the state launched the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana for intermediate students who perform exceptionally well in their board examinations. This scheme, which began during the 2022–23 academic session, aims to bridge the digital gap among meritorious students by providing free laptops or financial assistance for purchasing one. Because of its purpose, the scheme is also widely known as the MP Free Laptop Yojana, Laptop Distribution Scheme, or MP Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Scheme. Under this initiative, eligible students receive Rs. 25,000 as financial support, credited directly to their bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. In recent years, the scheme has benefited thousands of students, and in 2025 alone, Rs. 25,000 was distributed to more than 94,000 eligible students. The scheme targets students who secure 75% or more marks in their intermediate examination. Importantly, students do not need to apply separately. The entire process is managed by the School Education Department using academic records available with the board and schools. Students can track eligibility, payment status, and grievances online through the MP Shiksha Portal.
