Introduction The Baby Care Kit Scheme is an important maternal and child welfare initiative introduced by the Government of Maharashtra in 2019. The primary aim of this scheme is to motivate pregnant women to opt for institutional delivery at government hospitals or public health centres, ensuring safer childbirth for both mother and child. Through this programme, the state government seeks to lower the infant mortality rate and improve the nutritional and hygienic conditions of newborns and their mothers. The scheme is implemented by the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Maharashtra. Under the Baby Care Kit Scheme, eligible women beneficiaries are provided with a free baby care kit worth approximately Rs. 2,000, containing essential items required for the daily care of a newborn baby during the initial months after birth. Beneficiaries can visit the nearest Anganwadi Kendra to register for the Baby Care Kit Scheme with the help of Angawadi Worker. Helps ensure hygiene, warmth, and basic healthcare for infants. Reduces the immediate financial burden on new mothers. Items Included in the Baby Care Kit Each kit distributed under the scheme includes the following 17 items :- Plastic nappies. Baby clothes. Sleeping mat. Baby towel. Thermometer. Baby oil. Warm blanket. Mosquito net. Small plastic mat. Baby nail cutter. Baby shampoo. Toy. Socks and nail-cutter gloves. Liquid hand wash. Baby body wash. Baby wrapping cloth. Carry bag for kit items. All these items are carefully selected to support the health, safety, and hygiene of the newborn and mother. Eligibility To avail the benefits of the Baby Care Kit Scheme, the following eligibility conditions must be fulfilled :- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra. The woman should be in her 9th month of pregnancy. Registration and delivery at a government hospital or government health centre is mandatory. In special circumstances, beneficiaries delivering in private hospitals may also be considered. Registration must be done during the 9th month of pregnancy. Applications are also accepted up to 2 months after delivery. Documents Applicants must submit the following documents along with the application form :- Domicile certificate or proof of residence Aadhaar Card of the woman applicant Mobile number and email ID ANC / MAMTA Card copy Proof of institutional delivery Process to Apply Women beneficiaries can apply for the Baby Care Kit Scheme through an offline application process. The application form is available at nearby Anganwadi Centres. Visit the nearest Anganwadi Centre in your area. Collect the Baby Care Kit Scheme application form from the Anganwadi Worker. Fill in the application form carefully with correct details. Attach all required documents with the form. Submit the completed application to the Anganwadi Centre. The Anganwadi Worker will verify the application and documents. A list of eligible beneficiaries will be prepared and sent for departmental approval. After approval, baby care kits will be supplied to Anganwadi Centres. Eligible women beneficiaries will receive the baby care kit from the Anganwadi Centre.
