Introduction The Government of Rajasthan launched a revamped free electricity initiative called the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana on 14 October 2025. Earlier, the state operated the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana, which provided free electricity for up to 100 units per month. With the new scheme, the government increased the benefit to 150 units per month and linked it with rooftop solar installation to promote clean and renewable energy. Through this initiative, the state aims to reduce household electricity expenses and encourage residents to adopt solar power. The Rajasthan Energy Department implements the scheme across the state with the support of three electricity distribution companies - Jodhpur DISCOM, Ajmer DISCOM, and Jaipur DISCOM. Under this scheme, residents receive free electricity of up to 150 units every month, provided they install a minimum 1.1 kW rooftop solar plant under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana of the Central Government. The government expects around 1.04 crore registered beneficiaries to receive benefits under this scheme. The Central Government provides Rs. 33,000 under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The Rajasthan Government adds Rs. 17,000 as an additional subsidy. DISCOMs give an extra incentive of Rs. 1,100 to the first 10 lakh beneficiaries. Electricity companies install a smart electricity meter free of cost to help users track consumption. Eligibility The applicant must be a permanent resident of Rajasthan. The applicant must already be registered under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana. The scheme applies only to domestic electricity connections. The applicant must agree to apply under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The rooftop must have sufficient space for solar installation. The applicant must install a minimum 1.1 kW or higher-capacity solar plant. Enter your 12-digit K Number and read the scheme instructions carefully. Verify your electricity connection through OTP authentication. The portal auto-fills details such as name, address, sanctioned load, and beneficiary status. Confirm that your rooftop has enough space for solar installation. Accept the declaration and complete the registration. Download and save the consent receipt for future reference. Step 2: Apply under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana After submitting consent, applicants must apply for rooftop solar installation. Visit the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Official Website and click Apply Now. Register using your mobile number and complete your profile. Select Apply for Solar Rooftop and enter details such as state, district, DISCOM, and connection number. Upload the required documents and submit the application. Choose an authorised vendor after feasibility approval. Enter bank account details for subsidy credit. The vendor installs the solar plant and submits installation details to DISCOM. A DISCOM Assistant Engineer inspects and verifies the installation. After verification, the Central Government transfers ₹33,000 and the Rajasthan Government transfers ₹17,000 directly to the applicant’s bank account. How Benefits Are Provided to Residents After successful installation and verification of the rooftop solar plant, DISCOMs start supplying 150 units of free electricity every month. Beneficiaries receive zero-amount electricity bills for consumption within the approved limit. DISCOMs also credit an Rs. 1,100 incentive to eligible early applicants and install a smart meter at no cost. This process ensures transparent billing and accurate monitoring of electricity usage.
