Voluntary Organizations (VOs)/ Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)/Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) play a major role in the development of the nation by supplementing the efforts of the Government. The NPO-Partnership System (NPO-PS) Portal called as NPO-DARPAN enables VOs/NGOs/NPOs to enrol centrally and thus facilitates creation of a repository of information about VOs/NGOs, Sector/State wise. The Portal facilitates VOs/NGOs/NPOs to obtain a system generated Unique ID (DARPAN ID), as and when signed. As per the Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Amendment Rules, 2023, all Financial Institutes have been mandated to ensure NPO DARPAN Unique ID for NPOs for opening and operating accounts in any Bank. Similarly, DARPAN Unique ID is also required for registration/renewal of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), seeking tax exemptions under 80-G of Income Tax. The NPO-Partnership System (NPO-PS) Portal (NPO-DARPAN) is maintained by the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog w.e.f. 1st January, 2015. Any Non-Profit Organization (NPO) registered as a Trust, Society, Section 8 Companies, or registered under any other Acts can register on the NGO Darpan portal. Voluntary organizations (VOs) / Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) include organizations engaged in public service, based on ethical, cultural, social, economic, political, religious, spiritual, philanthropic or scientific & technological considerations. VOs include formal as well as informal groups, such as: community-based organizations (CBOs); non-governmental development organizations (NGDOs); charitable organizations; support organizations; networks or federations of such organizations; as well as professional membership associations. VOs / NGOs should broadly have the following characteristics: They are private, i.e., separate from Government They do not return profits generated to their owners or directors They are self-governing, i.e., not controlled by Government They are registered organizations or informal groups, with defined aims and objectives In India a Voluntary Organization / Non Governmental Organization can be registered as Trusts, Societies, or a private limited nonprofit company, under section-25 Company of the Indian Companies Act, 1956. Guide on How to Sign Up and generate DARPAN ID Create Account /Sign Up on the NPO Darpan (NPO-PS) Portal/Website. The email id and mobile number provided will be verified via OTP. Complete all fields with valid values, enter the captcha, and then click the Generate OTP button. Enter the Mobile and Email OTP for verification. Submit your application on the click of SUBMIT button. You will then see a success message and receive an email with your login details. Generate Password & mPIN: Login to the NPO Darpan (NPO-PS) Portal/Website The Login ID can be the registered NPO PAN, DARPAN ID, email, or mobile number provided during registration. The password will be the same as the one received in the email. After a successful login, the user will be redirected to the Create Password page. The old password is the one you received in your email. Set a new password and confirm it, then create a 4-digit mPIN and confirm it as well. After successfully setting your password, you will be automatically logged out and redirected to the login page. Profile creation Login to the portal - Login with Password and Login with OTP. After a successful login, you will be redirected to the mPIN Verification page. Complete the necessary details and click “Click to Proceed” to complete your profile for DARPAN ID Generation. Registration Fill up the details - Organisation details, Member details, Working area and project activities. On completion, click Proceed. It will open a new Witness Details form After completing this form, click Submit and E-Sign to open a draft affidavit. Once you check the check boxes and click the E-Sign button, an OTP will be sent to your Chief Functionary email ID and mobile number. Once you enter the received OTP in the form and click Submit, your registration process will be completed. A success dialog will appear, confirming that your registration was successful. Once you click the Check Details button, you will be redirected to the Overview page, where you can view your generated DARPAN ID details. Documents to be uploaded Original Registration certificate and complete Memorandum of Association (MOA) or Trust Deed. Clearly showing the stamp/e-sign of the Office of Registrar of Societies / Trust/Section 8 companies/any other registering authority.
