"Chief Minister Ladli Laxmi Yojana" is an initiative of the Madhya Pradesh state government for improving the health and educational status of the girls in the State. It seeks to prevent female foeticide and to bring the positive attitude among people towards girl child birth and with the aim to preventing child marriages. The plan is for the girls, born after 1st January 2006. Eligibility criteria Girl child born on or after 1 January 2006. The girl should be registered at the local Anganwadi Centre. Parents should be natives of Madhya Pradesh. Parents are not income tax payers. Parents who have less than two children, family planning has been adopted after the birth of the second child. A girl child born in the first delivery without family planning will be given benefits. In order to benefit the girl child born from the second delivery, it is necessary for the parents to adopt family planning. In Special cases In a family where there are maximum 02 children and the mother or father has died, the child can be registered up to 05 years after birth. But in such a case, if the woman/man has had a second marriage and has 02 children from the previous marriage, then the daughter from the second marriage will not get the benefit of the scheme. Even if there are 03 girls at the time of first delivery, all three girls will get the benefit of Ladli Lakshmi Yojana. Women inmates or eligible girl children in jails will also be benefited under the scheme. The benefit of the scheme will be given to the child of a girl who is a rape victim. How and where to apply To avail the benefits of this scheme, people will have to apply at the Anganwadi Center of their village / locality within 1 year of birth of the girl child. For such girl child who is the first child of their parents, and born before 31st March 2008, it is necessary, to get the birth registered first and then apply within 1 year of birth of second child. All the prescribed documents must be attached with the application. In the case of orphan girl, the superintendent of the concerned orphanage / protection home will have to apply to the concerned Project officer, before completion of 6 years of age and within the 1 year of admission of girl in the orphanage. Benefit to the girl child Under the scheme, an assurance certificate of Rs.1,43,000/- is issued by the government in the name of the girl child. Rs.2000/- for admission in class 6th to girls registered under the scheme, Rs.2000/- for admission in class 9th. 4000/-, Rs.6000/- for class 11th admission and Rs. 6000/- scholarship is provided. Incentive amount of Rs.25000/- will be given in two equal installments in the first and final year of the course to the girl child after class 12th for admission in graduate or professional course (course duration minimum two years). The education fee for higher education (Graduate) of Ladli girls will be borne by the government. There is a provision to make a final payment of Rs.1.00 Lakh on completion of 21 years of age, on appearing in class 12th examination and on marriage of the girl child, on completion of age prescribed by the government.
