Health is an important indicator that impacts human development. NITI Aayog has identified 13 core indicators along with 31 sub indicators for the health sector for development of Aspirational districts.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has initiated several activities to promote health and well being in the Aspirational districts.
The program calls for a situation analysis to identify strengths and gaps in the health system, and would include the following key components:
Based on this situation analysis a Health Action Plan needs to be formulated which will serve as the guiding document for corrective action.
The Aspirational districts are eligible for enhanced funding and priority allocation of various initiatives undertaken by the department and ministry e.g. MCH wings, SNCUs, blood banks, stores, health & wellness centres etc. under National Health Mission (NHM).
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has published a Operational Guidelines for Improving Health and Nutrition Status in Aspirational Districts.
The document provides a framework for implementing action to be undertaken for various health initiatives to guide the state, district, block programme officers and other stakeholders in organizing various activities expected to meet the vision for health by leveraging health and nutrition initiatives to bring transformation in the lives of people and meet their aspirations to be healthy.

The e-Mitra (Mobile Integrated Toolkit RMNCH+A ) app has been designed to complement the Aspirational District Programme and offers one stop solution to access RMNCH+A related statistics from different sources through a combination of approaches.
A Health Atlas as a diagnostic tool has also been developed by MoHFW for the Aspirational districts.
