Overview of the Begusarai District

Begusarai town is the administrative headquarters of Begusarai district, which is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state, India. Its total area is 1918 sq Kilometers. According to census 2011, its total population is 2970541 and its literacy rate is 59.13%. The district lies on the northern bank of river Ganga. It is located at Latitudes 25.15N & 25.45N and longitudes 85.45E & 86.36E. Places of visit includes Jai Mangla Temple, Nauo Lakha Temple, Kabar Lake.

Economy

The main stream of the economy of Begusarai is agriculture. Major part of the population in this district do farming related activities. Kharif, Paddy, Urad, Arahar, Masur, Rabi, Wheat, Macca, Gram, Matar, Tisi, Mustard, Sunflower are major crops of the district. Apart from that oilseeds, tobacco, jute, potato, tomato, andi and red chilies are main cash crops of the district. Begusarai has recently developed fruit farming including guava, mango, and litchi. Besides, a number of ancillary industries are also present in the district. At present, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL),  Barauni Thermal Power Station (BTPS) and  Barauni Sudha Dairy are main industries in Begusarai.
