FASTag is a simple to use, reloadable tag which enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets you pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction. FASTag is linked to a prepaid account from which the applicable toll amount is deducted. The tag employs Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology and is affixed on the vehicle's windscreen after the tag account is active.
FASTag is a perfect solution for a hassle free trip on national highways. FASTag is presently operational at 180 toll plazas across national and state highways. More toll plazas will be brought under the FASTag program in the future.
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out a programme for Electronic Toll Collection on Toll Plazas on National Highways to be called FASTag.
FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas. FASTag has a validity of 5 years and after purchasing it, you only need to recharge/ top up the FASTag as per your requirement.
FASTag offers near non-stop movement of vehicles through toll plazas and the convenience of cashless payment of toll fee with nation-wide interoperable Electronic Toll Collection Services.
The use of FASTag is mandatory for availing return journey discount or any other exemptions on Toll Fee Plazas. Moreover, all lanes in national highways are now compliant to use of FASTags only.
As per Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, since 1st December 2017, the FASTag had been made mandatory for all registration of new four wheeled Vehicles and is being supplied by the Vehicle Manuracturer or their dealers. It had further been mandated that the renewal of fitness certificate will be done only after the fitment of FASTag for the Transport Vehicles. Further that for National Permit Vehicles the fitment of FASTag has been mandated since 1st oct 2019.
It has been further mandated that a valid FASTag is mandatory while getting a new 3rd Party Insurance through an amendment in FORM 51 (certificate of Insurance), wherein the details of FASTag ID shall be captured. This shall be applicable w.e.f. 1 April 2021.
Union Ministry of Road Trasport & Highways has issued a notification making FASTag mandatory to be available by 1st of January 2021 in old vehicles also i.e. M and N category of motor vehicles (four wheelers) sold before 1st December, 2017 through amendments in CMVR, 1989.
FASTag is applicable for all categories, kinds, makes and types of vehicles.
Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) (a company incorporated by National Highways Authority of India) and National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) are implementing this program with help from Toll Plaza Concessionaires, FASTag Issuer Agencies and Toll Transaction Acquirer (select banks).

FASTag has a onetime Fee of Rs 100 including service tax with GST. The refundable security deposit depends on the vehicle type.
Generally, a FASTag price (tag cost) of Rs. 100 incl. GST, a security deposit of Rs. 200 and first recharge amount of Rs. 200 are usually charged by banks

If your FASTag KYC is incomplete, you will receive notification via email, SMS, or through issuing bank’s application interface regarding incomplete KYC. You are requested to keep an eye on your registered communication channels such as SMS, e-mail, etc. for updates. The KYC can be updated online as per following procedure:

In case you have not received any notification or reminder from your bank that means your KYC is complete and no action is required from your end.

A blacklisted tag means the tag which has been blocked by the issuer bank and cannot be used to pay toll at a toll plaza. There are various reason of blacklisting of tag, i.e. Tag is not having sufficient balance in FASTag account. In such cases Customer should call his bank toll free call center numbers and get the reason of
blacklist. To avoid Blacklisting of tag, customer should recharge his tag when he gets the alert of low balance from his bank.
Also, FASTag may get blacklisted in case of any violation such as vehicle – tag class mismatch, non-affixation on the windscreen and carrying in hand, etc.
The customer will receive an SMS with requisite details to his registered mobile number as soon as the toll transaction takes place. Periodic statement of account may also be obtained on website of the Issuer Agency after registration by the customer.
A vehicle with FASTag can any lane at toll plazas. Vehicle without valid FASTag entering FASTag lane will be charged double the applicable toll amount in cash. Vehicles with invalid or non-functional FASTag will be charged double toll Fee applicable to their category.

Issuer Agency will electronically deduct the applicable toll fee from the customer’s account linked to the FASTag. This deduction will be done post the toll transaction. The customer needs to adequately fund the account which is linked to FASTag. This recharge process may be termed as top-up.
You may recharge your FASTag account by making payment through cheque or online through Credit Card/ Debit Card/ NEFT/ RTGS or through Net Banking. FASTag account can be recharged upto Rs. 1,00,000.00 (Rupees One Lac only).

You will need to take two separate FASTags for the two vehicles.
No, FASTag is issued to each vehicle based on KYC documents submitted. If a FASTag for instance bought for one Car is used for a Truck then such FASTag shall get blacklisted resulting into denial of vehicle passage from FASTag lanes on Toll Plazas. FASTag users are advised to desist from such practice.
You will need to call customer care number of the issuer agency to block your FASTag. Once you take a new account, the issuer agency will transfer the balance to the new account.
Customer will receive an SMS alert in your registered phone number each time an amount is deducted from your FASTag account. Fee payable on each toll plaza may be seen on https://tis.nhai.gov.in/index.aspx?language=en in addition to the displayed at concerned toll plazas.
Customer can report an incorrect deduction by calling us at customer care number of the issuer agency. The agency will review your request and necessary action.
Customer can call up customer care of the issuer agency and block his / her FASTag account.
I have new vehicle fitted with RFID Tag. How to get it activated?
Please contact the PoS of respective Issuer Agency.
Can the tags purchased earlier be used?
Only RFID Tag purchased earlier may be used, in case of any problems, please contact the PoS of issuer Agency. Any other type of Tag will not work on FASTag lanes.
Please refer to steps under Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) for FASTag user. Customer to raise a request regarding the same by calling customer care of the respective Issuer Agency.
Users who wish to claim a discount for making return journey within 24 hours or any other local exemptions, shall be required to have a valid functional FASTag on the vehicle.
FASTag will work on all enabled toll plazas. In case of change in city or address, the customer should inform only the Issuer Agency.
It is strictly prohibited to purchase two FASTag for one vehicle. In case of multiple FASTag, customer will be responsible for operational issues.
In case of car being sold or transferred; only the Issuer Agency needs to be informed.
The vehicle owner/ user could approach the Issuer Agency for replacement of FASTag.
It is planned to extend usage of FASTag to toll plazas at State highways for tolling, parking lots for parking charge and various other payments at wayside amenities.
The primary point of contact for the vehicle owner/ user is the Issuer Agency, contact details for which will be shared at the time of FASTag issuance. IHMCL can be approached as the next escalation level.
