With growing importance for quality legal education, various national law schools acquired lot of importance. To meet the requirements of student’s states decided to establish a new national level Law school/University. At present 16 national level law school/university are ready to provide the quality legal education through Under-Graduate and post-Graduate courses.
These laws school/Universities also conducts several short and medium term orientation, training and refresher courses for NGOs, Government officials and public administrators, local self-Government, legal professionals including members of the bar and the bench, other administrative authorities and corporate officials.
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted on rotation by 15 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M).
The first CLAT Core Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellors of the seven participating NLUs decided that the test should be conducted by rotation in the order of their establishment. Accordingly, the first Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was conducted in the year 2008 by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.
Eligibility
Under-Graduate Courses
To be eligible to appear in CLAT, a candidate should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognised Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC and ST candidates).
Post-Graduate Courses
To be eligible for appearing in CLAT, a candidate should have obtained a LL. B/B. L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of SC and ST candidates).
