Joint Admission test for Masters (JAM)

Joint Admission test for Masters (JAM) has been established as a benchmark for the undergraduate level science education in the country since 2004 - 05. The objective of JAM is to provide admissions to Post-Bachelor’s Degree Programmes and to consolidate Science as a career option for bright students across the country. These programmes offer high-quality education in their respective disciplines, comparable to the best in the world. The curricula for these programmes are designed to provide the students with opportunities to develop academic talent leading to challenging and rewarding professional life. The curricula are regularly updated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The interdisciplinary content of the curricula equips the students with the ability to utilize scientific knowledge for practical applications. These programmes are open to all eligible students irrespective of their nationality. The medium of instruction is English for all the above mentioned programmes.

Highlights of JAM 2025

  • JAM 2025 is a Computer Based Test (CBT) to be conducted in seven different subjects:
    • Biotechnology (BT)
    • Chemistry (CY)
    • Economics (EN)
    • Geology (GG)
    • Mathematical Statistics (MS)
    • Mathematics (MA)
    • Physics (PH)
  • Fully objective type, with three types of questions:
    • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
    • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
    • Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
  • Candidates can appear for either one or two test papers.
  • Direct admission to over 3000 seats in various postgraduate programmes at IITs.
  • JAM 2025 Scores to be used for admissions to over 2000 seats by IISc and various CFTIs including the following through Centralized Counselling for M. SC./M. SC. (TECH.) Admission (CCMN).

  • Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is the Organizing Institute for JAM 2025.
  • JAM 2025 is open to all nationals (Indian / Foreign) and there is no age restriction. Candidates completing their qualifying degrees in 2025 are eligible.
  • JAM 2025 examination will be conducted over 100 cities in India.

Eligibility Requirements (ERs)

Candidates who qualify in JAM 2025 must fulfill the following Eligibility Requirements (ERs) for admissions to IITs:

  • Candidates should have passed an undergraduate degree or should be currently studying in their final year of undergraduate programme. Proof of having passed the undergraduate degree should be submitted.
  • Candidates promoted without a marksheet should produce a certificate stating the subjects studied in that semester/year duly signed by the Head of the Institute.
  • Foreign nationals with Indian degree are eligible to apply, subject to policy of the Admitting Institute.
  • There is no age restriction.

At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. The admitted candidates may also have to undergo a Physical Fitness test by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. Admission is liable to be cancelled if a candidate is found physically unfit to pursue their chosen course of study.

Admissions to various programmes using JAM 2025 score can be divided into two categories:

Admitting Institutes

JAM 2025 scores will be used for admission to over 3000 seats in postgraduate programmes at 21 IITs for the academic year 2025-26. For candidates satisfying the ERs, MEQs and other necessary requirements, JAM 2025 scores will be used to admit the candidates without any additional interview or written test.

Result Sharing Institutes

JAM scores will be used for admission to over 2000 seats for postgraduate programmes such as M.Sc. and M.A. at various NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, DIAT through Centralized Counselling for M.Sc. / M.Sc. (Tech.) Admissions (CCMN). There are no additional written tests or interviews for admission to candidates qualifying JAM and satisfying the eligibility and special eligibility requirements.
