India International Science Festival (IISF) is an initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Earth Science of the Government of India in association with Vijnana Bharati which is a science movement with Swadeshi spirit led by eminent scientists of the country. The main purpose of IISF is the celebration of science by all. Engagement of common people with science in a joyful and entertaining manner is essential for a healthy, prosperous and meaningful life. Through its creative programs and activities, IISF provides opportunities to people and the scientific fraternity in the country and abroad to come together, work together and experience the joy of doing science for the well-being of India and humanity.
Vision: Promotion of creativity in science, technology and innovation for prosperous India.
Mission: To engage creative and imaginative minds in India and across the globe to celebrate science through various programs and activities connected to the five pillars of Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The journey of IISF was started with its inaugural event in Delhi in 2015. Eight editions of IISF have been organized since then in northern, southern and eastern regions of the country. The pandemic in 2020 due to Covid-19 posed a serious challenge to the conduct of this annual event, but the challenge was overcome by conducting the event on a virtual platform to maintain the uninterrupted flow of the journey.
Responsibility for conducting this mega annual event is given either to one of the departments of the Ministry of Science and Technology, viz. DST, CSIR and DBT or to the Ministry of Earth Science in rotation. Several other ministries and departments related to S&T have always been involved in the organization of the event. Vijnana Bharati has been a consistent organizing partner in the forward march of IISF.
IISF has evolved progressively through its innovative design of programs and activities connecting various aspects of life to science. Representation of the diverse strata of society in the event has emerged as a remarkable feature of IISF. The number of participants from India and abroad has grown steadily with every edition and the journey is on involving more and more people to attain the desired outcome.
The IISF 2023 is being held during 17th to 20th January, 2024 at DBT THSTI - RCB Campus, NCR Biotech Science Cluster 3rd Milestone, Faridabad-Gurugram Expressway, Faridabad - 121001 Haryana (NCR Delhi), India
The aim is to engage the public with science and celebrate the joy of science and show the ways how science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) provide us with the solutions to improve our lives.
The events included the following items.
Students, educators, scientists and researchers naturally constitute the main target population of the festival programmes. It also tries to reach the target population through ambassadors and promoters. Are you a filmmaker, young scientist, undergraduate /postgraduate student, social organisation, innovator start-up entrepreneur, activist or practitioner? IISF's primary objective is to commemorate the world of science, making it accessible to all. The essential notion is to engage general populace with science in an enjoyable and entertaining manner, thereby contributing to health, prosperity and meaningful life. By means of its inventive programs and initiatives, IISF extends opportunities for people and scientific community, both within the country and internationally, to come together, collaborate and partake in the gratification of advancing scientific pursuits towards betterment of India and humanity.
