Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu

Survey

A student wise medium wise survey has been conducted of the students studying in primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary government schools of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu to decide the modes of remote learning. In the UT, the education is being imparted through four mediums i.e. Gujarati, English, Marathi and Hindi. According to survey report, out of 73148 students studying in Government schools (excluding class I, IX and X), a total of 38,713 students (52.9%) of various mediums have smart phone. Out of 38713, around 33,991 have TV connections as well. There are around 8475 students (11.58%) who don’t have a smart phone but have a TV connection.

E-portal

A simplified portal named “Adhyayan” has been developed for students studying in elementary, secondary and higher secondary sections of government schools to impart learning. There is a module on assessment based on MCQs as well in the portal. The portal is yet to be rolled out. Also, an online app is in the process of development wherein, the contents can be accessed by the students offline after the app is downloaded. For the time being, the WhatsApp groups have also been created with the students by the concerned teachers for the purpose of imparting education.

Another, a simplified portal named “E-gyanMitra” has also been developed for students studying in elementary, secondary and higher secondary sections of government schools to impart learning. There is a module on assessment based on MCQs as well in the portal. The students are using the portal. The key features of the portal are:

• The videos that are being uploaded are being locally made and are aligned to the academic syllabus of that particular class.
• The school wise, teacher wise and student wise logins have been created where in the subject teacher can monitor the number of videos being seen by the students and can hence, persuade the students to see all the content that is being provided through the portal.
• The students cannot move to next video unless and until he/she has completed the assessment related to the previous video.
• The link of the portal and the login ids are being provided to the students through classwise whatsapp groups.
• Also, an online app is in process of development wherein, the contents can be accessed by the students offline after the app is downloaded.

Content preparation for e-learning

Content preparation for e-learnng- The idea is to disseminate standard wise common content in form of videos, PPT etcin four different mediums (Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi) across the government schools in the three districts of the UT. Thus, the videos are being prepared as per the academic calendar by the teachers, which shall be verified and uploaded on the portal and later in the app. The already available material from DIKSHA portal, e-content (provided by TATA Class) in form of animation videos that was being used in our smart classrooms before COVID shall also be used.

Broadcasting on Television

The learning content will also be broadcasted on widely seen local channel through local cable operators. The VANDE GUJARAT channels are already quite popular among the students in the UT. Also, the awareness is being created among the students and the parents to encourage the use of the channels being broadcasted by NCERT.

Learning through Workbook

The teachers have prepared the workbooks as per the academic calendar for students studying in classes I to V in Government schools. These workbooks will have worksheets pertaining to few chapters. They carry solved examples as well to guide the students. Apart from textbooks, notebooks and stationery, these workbooks will be distributed to the parents from time to time. For the remaining students, the questions will be provided from the syllabus that will be covered through e-portal and Television for practicing.

The UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli along with Daman & Diu was observing four initiatives in order to impart digital education before the lockdown amidst Covid-19. These programs cater to students from Class 1 to Class 12 through different mediums. Details are mentioned below:

Digital Classroom

These classrooms helped empower students from lower income backgrounds to access technology. The students were given 21st century learning tools with meaningful access to technology.

E-content was provided in three languages (Gujarati, English & Hindi) for eleven subjects for classes 1 to 12. The contents are copyright of TATA Classes.

Vande Gujarat

Television being the medium to provide conceptual understanding for three subjects (Maths, Science & Social Science) for classes 6-12, this program is popular among students.

GSHSEB Gandhinagar (YouTube Channel)

The aim of the channel is to provide better conceptual understanding among students from class 9 to 12th. The channel is very helpful for students during lockdown. The channel caters contents for four subjects i.e. Maths, Science, Social Science and English.

Concept Classes

For students of classes 1 to 8, these concept classes are for four subjects i.e. Maths, Science, Social Science and English.

E-Notes

For classes from VI to XII, the notes are being prepared by the teachers separately for separate mediums for better understanding of the chapters. These notes will be shared by the teachers as pdf files on Whatsapp groups. For the students who don’t have access to the smart phone, the same shall be distributed in hard copy.
