Remote learning initiatives in Ladakh

Steps taken for online/digital Education

1. Recorded contents as per the syllabus are being uploaded on YouTube then the links of contents are shared on different WhatsApp groups of students.
2. AIR Leh and Kargil have provided time slots of one hour and half an hour respectively for broadcast of recorded contents of class 10th, 11th& 12th class (Science as well as Arts streams). The request has been made to Director General, All India Radio, for allotment of a time slot of 3 hours daily through both AIR Leh & Kargil for broadcasting the educational activities during the lockdown period.
3. Similarly, Director General Doordarshan to allocate time slot of at least 2 hours at DD Leh/Kashmir. Now, DD Kashmir has allocated a time slot of 2 hours for telecasting the lessons.
4. EMBIBE Bangalore (NGO) is also arranging online classes for 11th& 12th standard free of cost.
5. DIET faculty (Leh & Kargil) in collaboration with field teachers and 17000 feet (an NGO) are also providing online Education from class 1st to 9th through YouTube and different WhatsApp groups.
6. Mobile app has been developed and launched by the Department of School Education UT of Ladakh wherein content recorded by concerned subject teachers as per the syllabus is uploaded; students from class 1st to 12th can browse the class and subject and view the related uploaded content and clarify the doubts from the concerned class teachers subsequently.
7. The department has uploaded the video content for all the classes (1st to 12th) on the following website and YouTube channel, so that the students can access the lessons as and when required.< /li>

Challenges related to Digital/Online Education

• Large number of students are neither having android cell phones nor Laptop/Desktop or Tablets due to financial constraints.
• Ladakh is hilly, sparsely populated and is a far flung area where mobile/internet connectivity is very limited. In order to provide teaching content offline, classroom digital equipment is required wherever mobile or internet connectivity is not available so that contents are provided through pre-loading or through CD or pen drive.
