Gall Bladder Stones

Gall bladder is a thumb shaped organ under the liver which stores bile which is essential for digestion. Swelling of the gall bladder causes gall bladder disease. Gall bladder disease occurs when the gallstones formed can block the duct that leads from the gall bladder.

Stones in the gallbladder are referred to as gallstones

There are two types of gallstones:

  • Cholesterol stone
  • Pigment stone

Cholesterol stones are more common, They can vary in size from a small grain to the size of a big golf ball

Symptoms

  • Indigestion
  • Vomiting
  • jaundice
  • Severe Pain in the upper abdomen
  • Backache
  • Pain between the shoulder blades
  • Nausea

How to Diagnosed

  • Some of the tests that may be used to confirm diagnosis of gallstones are
  • abdominal ultrasound/CT scan,
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP),
  • Gallbladder Radionuclide Scan
  • Blood tests may include bilirubin test, liver function tests, test for pancreatic enzymes, etc.

Surgery

Surgeon may perform the commonly used technique called laparoscopic gallbladder removal

Medications

Drugs that dissolve gallstones caused by cholesterol are an option if you cannot undergo surgery. These medications may take several years to eliminate the gallstones.

Foods to be avoided

Beet root, Cucumbers

Egg, pork, onions, milk, beans, nuts, coffee

Apples, Consume citrus foods, apricots, berries, and guava

Hydrogenated fats,

Vegetable juices of beets and cucumber as well as celery, carrots, beet greens

Saturated fats like Clarified butter,

Fresh garlic for cleansing of the liver.

Margarine

Sweet potatoes, Ripe tomatoes

Fried foods

Cold water fish

Black tea

Lemon. Drink lemon juice mixed with warm Water in the morning

Chocolate, ice-cream and milk products

Grapes and fresh juice of organic grapes

Cabbage, cauliflower, radish and turnips

Coconut (Coconut in oil form is rich in Medium chain Triglycerides)

Wheat and barley, Reduce intake of carbohydrates

Omega 3 rich oils like flax and hemp. Add these Oils in the salads preferably in the raw form.

Legumes and beans

Lots of water

Pikkles

Low fat cottage cheese

Reduce alcohol consumption
