Global Food Regulatory portal
The Global Food Regulatory portal is a common unified IT-portal that provides comprehensive information on standards, regulations, notifications, advisories, guidelines, etc on Food regulation.
Background
While there is evolution of food safety and regulatory framework across the globe, it is also extremely important to foster harmonisation of these policies to enable a unified global approach to food trade while ensuring safe food for all. In an endeavour to facilitate global access to information and enabling effective communication among the Food Regulators for effective policy framework on food safety and international food trade, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated the Global Food Regulatory portal / Common Digital Dashboard.
Objectives
- To enable the food value chain stakeholders such as food manufacturers, processors, exporters and importers, as well as government and non-government officials, to understand food safety and regulatory framework used in other countries, and align their existing food safety production systems and regulatory practices with importing countries requirements.
- Also, to create an opportunity for gathering and exchanging information on food product regulatory and safety requirements and to stimulate scientific and institutional cooperation. This will provide a common platform for dialogue on global access to information and facilitating effective communication on key food safety issues.
- To enable initiation of a common dialogues wherein issues related to food safety, harmonization of standards, risk assessment, cross border trade, analytical competence, import tolerance, setting of MRLs for residues of contaminants, labelling and mutual capacity building may be deliberated.
