Apprenticeship Scheme

Brief Description:

The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) is a scheme for a further period of 05 years with effect from 01.04.2021 to 31.03.2026 with an outlay of Rs.3054 crore for graduates, diploma holders (engineering and general streams such as B.A., B.Sc., B.Com) and students studying degree and diploma level courses in sandwich programme of engineering. Under NATS, the apprentices are imparted training by the organizations at their place of work. Trained managers, with well-developed training modules ensure that apprentices learn the job quickly and competently. National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) is one of the flagship programs of Government of India for skilling Indian youth. The scheme is operated as per “The Apprentices Act, 1961” (as amended from time to time) & “The Apprenticeship Rules, 1992” (as amended from time to time)..

The Nation Scheme of Aprenticeship Training is implemented through four Regional Boards of Apprenticeship/practical (BOATs/BOPT)at Mumbai, Kanpur, Chennai & Kolkata. The four Regional BOATs/BOPT, which are fully funded autonomous  organizations of MoE, have been entrusted with the responsibility to implement the scheme of  Apprenticeship Training under Apprentices Act, 1961 as amended from time to time in their  respective regions. The period of Apprenticeship Training under the act is one year.

Nature of Assistance:

The apprentices are paid monthly stipend which is shared between the Central Government and the Employer on 50:50 basis. The existing rates of stipends as effective from 1.4.2021 for Graduate is Rs 9,000, Graduate Sandwich Apprentices is Rs 8,000,  Technicians is Rs 8,000 and Technicial Sandwich Apprentices is Rs  7,000 per month. 

Who can apply?

Graduate Apprentice

  1. A Degree in Engineering/Technology awarded by a statutory University or by an Institution empowered to award such Degree by an Act of parliament.
  2. An examination of professional bodies recognized by central Government as equivalent to Degree
  3. A Sandwich Course student who is undergoing training as per the curriculum in order that he may hold a Degree in Engineering/Technology as mentioned (1) above

Technician Apprentice

A Diploma in Engineering/Technology awarded by a state council on Board of Technical Education established by a State Government or by an University or by an institute recognized by the State Government or Central Government as equivalent.

Technician (Vocational) Apprentice

A Higher secondary + 2 Vocational Certificate holder having studied and passed under the vocational stream in the designated subject fields.
