Homoeopathy for children

Homeopathy for children & adolescents

Homoeopathic medicines are known to be useful for a number of conditions related to children & adolescents and the treatment is without any side effects. The medicines are palatable and acceptability and compliance to treatment is good.

There are a number of complaints for which homoeopathy can be the first line of choice. The medicines can be initiated at the prodromal stage, before the
complaints aggravate and become a cause of concern.

Homoeopathic medicines are used to

  • Promote healthy teething in infants & young children.
  • Treat common ailments such as respiratory infections, diarrhoea, etc. associated with teething.
  • Treat recurrent respiratory, gastro-intestinal or skin infections occuring during early childhood.
  • Promote health and reduce the frequency of infections.
  • Manage learning disability and other behavioural problems like Autism, Attention deficit disorders, etc.

The physicians can identify deviant behaviours and sub-clinical conditions, and remedial measures can be undertaken early, especially during the adolescent years. Homoeopathy, therefore, is useful for a number of conditions in children from teething times to teenage years.

Strengths of Homeopathy in child care

  • Simple method of administration
  • Lack of diagnosis is not a hindrance for initiating treatment with homoeopathic medicines.
  • No drug resistance, no drug dependency and no known side effects
  • Treatment is cost effective
  • Medicines, instead of having a direct action on the micro-organisms, act on the human system (self-protective) to fight disease process.
  • Individualized approach for treatment which is the mainstay in Homoeopathy is in consonance with increasing need for customized treatment, being realized in the modern era.
  • Homoeopathic remedies are non-addictive and once relief occurs, the patient can easily stop taking them.
